Invitation Issues

Q. My daughter only wants to invite certain children from her class for her birthday. But her teacher strongly encourages that if we have one during the school year we invite everyone to avoid hurt feelings. What do I do?

A. My suggestion is to go ahead and invite the class, unless your daughter can wait for summer for a party. Chances are that if there are certain classmates she doesn’t get along with, they probably won’t want to come. And if the other parents know of the or remember the policy, hopefully they will realize it is just a courtesy invite. And who knows, children are fickle in friendships so by the time her party rolls around, her group of friends may have changed!! Twice!
